Day 2Shanghai
The comprehensive full-day sightseeing tour begins with an exploration of the Shanghai Museum, a world-class institution renowned for its exceptional collection of ancient Chinese art. Housing over 120,000 precious artifacts, the museum offers a deep dive into China's history and culture through its superb displays of bronzes, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, sculptures, jade, and more. This is an essential stop for any art or history enthusiast. Following the museum, the tour moves to The Bund (Waitan), Shanghai’s most iconic waterfront district. This famous promenade along the Huangpu River is a living museum of architectural styles, featuring dozens of historical buildings that once housed banks and trading houses from the city's colonial past. The Bund offers a spectacular contrast, with the classic, European-style architecture on the west bank facing the futuristic, dazzling skyline of the Pudong New Development Zone on the east bank. Next, step back in time at the Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden), a classical Chinese garden dating back to the Ming Dynasty in the 16th century. Originally built for a government official, this exquisite private garden is a tranquil labyrinth of traditional Chinese architecture, featuring ornate rockeries, crystal ponds, elegant pavilions, winding pathways, and decorative bridges. The garden's design perfectly exemplifies the sophisticated aesthetics of ancient Chinese courtyard and garden design, offering a peaceful oasis away from the city's hustle. The tour then continues to the vibrant Xintiandi district. This area perfectly blends old and new, featuring renovated traditional Shikumen (stone-gate) houses—a unique Shanghai architectural style—that now host trendy boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Xintiandi preserves the city's cultural heritage while providing a stylish, modern social and commercial center. Finally, the day culminates with a visit to the Pudong New Development Zone. Crossing the river offers a stark visual shift from old Shanghai to the 21st century. Pudong is the financial and commercial heart of modern China, home to super-tall skyscrapers like the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center, and the Shanghai Tower. This zone symbolizes China's rapid economic growth and modernity, offering breathtaking views and a powerful sense of the nation's future.
